Kenny Wessel - Guitar Joel Frahm - Saxophone Ben Triesch - Bass Daniel DuFour - Drums Kenny Wessel, a versatile, sensitive and soulful guitarist and composer, has performed in 28 countries and toured with revolutionary jazz artist Ornette Coleman for over 12 years as a member of Prime Time. Wessel has also worked with Donald Fagen (featured on his album, Morph the Cat), David Liebman, Badal Roy, John Abercrombie, Karl Berger, Debbie Harry, Arthur Prysock, Debashish Bhattacharya, Laurie Anderson, Adam Rudolph, and many others from the jazz, world music and pop spectrum. He has released 5 CDs as a leader, and is featured on more than 40 others as a sideman. This will be Kenny’s first time playing at Parker Jazz Club in Austin, and he’s looking forward to performing here. At this concert, Kenny is excited to be playing with one of his favorite musicians and dear friend, Joel Frahm, on saxophones. Joel is on Wessel’s CD, Weights & Measures, which received 4 stars in Downbeat. About his CD Unstrung, Bill Milkowski writes, “A superb showcase for a talented guitarist who has been flying under the radar for too long.” Collaborating and communicating with musicians on the bandstand, and sharing ideas, feelings and stories with listeners are goals that Wessel works hard to achieve. Kenny’s music combines jazz with elements of the blues, world music (particularly North Indian Raga), free music, and other strains of American music. Wessel is also an active and dedicated educator and is currently teaching at the Manhattan School of Music, City College of New York, Western Connecticut State University, and the New York Jazz Workshop, in addition to giving clinics and workshops here and abroad. www.kenwessel.com
