Tue, Jun 30

Born into New Orleans’ legendary Marsalis musical family, vibraphonist and drummer Jason Marsalis has built an internationally respected career as a performer, bandleader, composer, and educator. The son of Ellis Marsalis and brother to Branford, Wynton, and Delfeayo, he has performed with jazz icons including Marcus Roberts, Joe Henderson, Lionel Hampton, Béla Fleck, Aretha Franklin, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Known for his deep swing, versatility, and commitment to the traditions of New Orleans, Marsalis continues to captivate audiences around the world. This evening Jason will be playing the drums.
Joining Jason for this special performance is New York-based jazz vocalist, composer, and bandleader Vanisha Gould. A Berklee College of Music graduate, Gould has earned international recognition for her soulful voice, expressive songwriting, and magnetic stage presence, with appearances at renowned venues including Smalls Jazz Club, Dizzy’s Club, Minton’s Playhouse, The Django, and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Inspired by legendary artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, and Joni Mitchell, she brings a fresh and deeply personal perspective to the jazz tradition through her original recordings including "In Her Words," "Life’s a Gig," and "She’s Not Shiny, She’s Not Smooth."
Together, Marsalis and Gould create a compelling musical dialogue that bridges generations of jazz artistry, blending timeless swing, modern storytelling, and dynamic improvisation.
